Relentless Inquiry

Spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to recover my ipod shuffle. It came up in iTunes with a "please upgrade" and I STUPIDLY CLICKED YES, bad bad bad move. The upgrade bricked the ipod shuffle from iTunes perspective– it now always marks it as corrupted and in need of a restore, and the restore doesn't work. I can mount the shuffle in DiskUtility and I've tried formatting it in various ways hoping to clear whatever is wrong, but no go. SO FRUSTRATED, because it came up at first and if I'd only said NO to the damn upgrade it would have worked.

I shouldn't be upset because I haven't used it in years, it was in a drawer until I took it out to use the charger to try to charge my friend's shuffle that he'd lost the charger for. But knowing it COULD have worked and that the upgrade blew it really gets to me. Later after Burning Man when I have more time, maybe I'll make a genius bar appointment at an Apple store and see if they can fix it, maybe they have magic tools (ha). I can always reformat it and use it as a 1GB jump drive, if I needed such a thing. :-(
