Mad Science Redux
Yes, I’m serious. I’m going to hold a Hangout sometime in the next week or two and share the idea. There will be a lot of "but but that’s HARD and EXPENSIVE and stuff". Yeah, but breaking hard and expensive goals into achievable, affordable pieces is WHAT I DO and have been doing for over 25 years. Yes, you’re right, we’re all very busy and more ways to get involved are needed. Staff Scientist: 8 – 12 hrs/week We’re pleased to offer you a labcoat with your name embroidered on it and one or more logo patches to put on it if you can commit to that level for 4 weeks. You get a coverall ditto at 6 months. Associate: 8 – 10 hours per month. We can’t buy labcoats for you all, but at the end of the first month, we can certainly send you a logo patch, either for the overall umbrella project or for your project subgroup. Minion: You pop up from time to time, snag a project task from the open queue, and scurry off, returning later with results. We take it back if you’re gone more than a week, and are happy to play tug of war and support your efforts. After you finish 5 of these roughly 2 hour projects, we’ll send you a project patch. Finish 25 and we’ll send you an "Official Minion" title patch to go under the project patch. An even 105 will earn you your labcoat! We have a lot to do. We need everybody’s help. One of the first things we’ll need to do is build (oh noes!) a really flexible useful ticket system. Hahahaha! And a flying unicorn! No, we’ll have to adapt something. I think a personal version of Atlassian JIRA will work until/unless we find something better. Once we get our nonprofit paperwork filed, we’ll have more options. Requirements: scaleable, granular administration/permissions, access either via web or custom app, easy to use on both iPhone and Android, runs on a virtualized linux platform and is happy about it. So. A host site and a JIRA. Minions? Associates? Potential Staff Scientists? Here’s the first assignment. And yes, it’s ok to name the JIRA backend database "abby". |
