When Mike took Boo to the vet on Thursday, because I was at Ruby on Rails Camp at IBM Almaden, he said she didn't put up even a hint of a struggle as he put her in the cat carrier. That's very different from the usual Boo + carrier experience, believe me.
The vet shaved her little wound and poked around the area a bit and found… a second puncture wound. It *is* a bite! The spacing is such that it could be a cat bite or could be a fox bite. The gross viscous pus being produced was apparently some necrosis in the subcutaneous fat. The vet cleaned the wound and flushed it out, so things are much better now.
There's now a “drain”, a little piece of gauzy surgical material of some kind, tied between the two punctures as an aid to draining/wicking. Since the wound is on the top of her back, it won't really drain via gravity. I use a warm damp compress on it to keep it clean and keep it from drying out too much. She will go back to the vet's on Monday for them to take a look and probably remove it. Apparently it's quite common for small wounds in cats to close off at the surface more quickly than is ideal for healing.
I know that Boo is feeling *much* better because last night's late-night Clavamox adventure wasn't too bad, but tonight it was a battle royal to get that little dropper-ful down the Booster. We haven't had any flying meds yet, but it wasn't for lack of trying.
