In the 'odd real-world skills' department, how many of my friends know how to begin rescue of a stranded whale? I don't know myself, beyond the basics (keep skin wet, clear blowhole, realize that the weight of the whale is crushing its innards ). An entagled whale? I don't have the first idea.

ENTANGLED!
What can be done when a 50-ton whale becomes entangled in
life-threatening fishing gear or marine debris?
Join NOAA's Stranding network specialist Ed Lyman, who has freed dozens of
whales, for a presentation on rescue techniques and equipment used to free
large whales trapped in lines and nets. Learn about case
histories from previous rescue operations – what worked and what didn't –
and about NOAA's efforts to prevent these incidents from occurring.
Thousands of endangered humpbacks and blue whales, and tens of thousands of
gray whales share California's marine sanctuary waters with some of the
nation's largest fishing and crabbing fleets. Marine debris also poses a
lethal threat to these air breathing mammals.
