Sounds like the trip is going really well– the captain's 'noon position' log is telling about some awesome adventures.
We went in search of spawning salmon yesterday and ended up discovering a fantastic marble grotto when we motored up a salmon stream in an inflatable. It was absolutely incredible to drive inside the grotto (consisting of the same marble that you see inside building lobbies etc.) in a deep pool of water and to see beautiful rainforest at both ends. Our divers (and non-divers in loaner drysuits!) then drifted down the stream and across a a submerged mudflat teaming with dungeness crab.
Phil arranged for a crab and salmon feast for everyone at Favourite Lodge in Angoon and we popped in for a highly enjoyable drift dive outside the lodge before dinner. To our surprise, we discovered that the bottom of the channel was teeming with life including giant pacific octopus, wolfeels and loads of invertebrate life. We've had (3) different grizzly bear events today (including sighting a sow and 2 cubs) at our day anchorage at the aptly named “Bear Bay”
I can hardly wait to see all the pix that my Fishly Beloved is going to bring back! Had a good workout this morning with Amy, moved from the usual Thursday timeslot to today. If I keep this up, I'll be fit enough to go to Alaska next year!
