Senator Dianne Feinstein,
Senator Barbara Boxer,
Representative Anna Eshoo,
Thank you for your diligence and excellent representation in the US Congress.
I am writing today to urge you to oppose H.R. 4167, the “National Uniformity for Food Act” (and any Senate equivalents that may arise).
This bill is nothing more than an attempt to oppose consumer awareness in labeling and prevent consumer choice. In the guise of ‘standardization’, it would preclude the kind of pioneering work done by states like California (disclosure laws on shellfish contaminants) and Pennsylvania (one of the first definitions of ‘organic’ that really meant anything).
Even worse, it would explicitly prevent states and municipalities from passing any food labeling laws that differed from federal laws. This smacks directly against traditional states’ rights issues, and is a bad precedent.
Keep up the great work, ladies! It rocks to have all my US-level reps be women, btw– another great thing about Sunnyvale. 🙂
Sincerely,
