You have til 5pm PST today, Monday 11/28/05, to let CA Secretary of State Bruce McPherson know if you are opposed to certifying those idiotically flawed Diebold machines as our 'official' electronic election machines for CA.
• Call: (916) 653-6814 (press 6, then 3) (Monday, 8 am – 5 pm)
• FAX: 916 653-3214 (anytime till 5 pm Monday)
• Email: VotingSystemComment@ss.ca.gov
Fax it if you can– I hate killing trees, too, but if it's on paper, they pay more attention.
Efax turns out to be a good compromise for me. 🙂
Dear Secretary McPherson,
Thank you for your concern in making sure that Californians have access to safe and fair elections.
I am writing today to urge you NOT to certify the Diebold electronic election machines. As you are undoubtedly aware, there are too many issues with these machines for them to be considered safe and reliable.
- Diebold's refusal to permit oversight of the internal source code
- Perjury by Diebold employees re: uncertified code updates to machines
- The so-called GEMS backdoor
- The 'we can change votes on the card' bug [modify executables on card with new counts]
Nevada, whom Californians think of as our low/no-tech neighbor, has strong authentication and paper-ballot-trail electronic voting. India implemented low-cost, cryptographically untamperable nationwide elections.
Why should California, leader in high-tech, have crummy machines sold by lies and deceit, and capable of fixing elections? Sorry that we spent the money already, but don't try to frost a dung-cake by certifying these machines. Demand that Diebold live up to its lies and fix the problems, or throw the boxes out the door and start looking for ones that work appropriately.
Thanks for listening!
Sincerely,
