Spherical Harmonic, Catherine Asaro Liked the storyline, liked the funky font-poems and all the math. No pretensions at *following* the math, just liked it– I have concepts, not equations, for these things, and some of my concept territory became more filled-in. Overall, a bit choppy– pacing goes from detailed inner-life-of-Dhyiennia to zooming around doing stuff, but still an enjoyable read.
The Last Hawk, Catherine Asaro Good storyline, good pacing, pretty enjoyable all around. Would like to see 'rules' for Quis, or at least a list of the pieces, but that would be telling, I guess. One impressive concept includes the Quis net as substitute for the computer net– which makes me go 'aha!' at some aspects of the mass media, and illustrates to me how the Republican spin machine has triumphed. This novel very much can stand alone, w/o requiring any substantial familiarity with the rest of the series– imho a good thing.
