One of our action items for this year is to move forward with finding and buying a piece of rural or semi-rural land. We've got a trip up to northwestern CA and southwestern OR scheduled for later in the summer.
There are zillions of real estate developers out there selling their own little piece of country, but we are looking for a private-party sale, not buying into a development or buying from a development company (too much snake oil, and already inflated pricing)
Some of you may have similar dreams– shall we work together? Co-ops and the like are complicated and take a lot of setup, so here's my simple plan: find us a property, and either we can buy it outright together and subdivide it (extending all our reaches), or find something we can buy and we'll GIVE you a piece of it as a finder's fee.
Find us 5 acres, and when we successfully close escrow on it, we'll get it surveyed and we'll give you title to a quarter-acre homesite. Find us 10, it'll be a half-acre homesite. Twenty, and it'll be a full acre. And if you're interested in hosting a couple of goats, sheep, or llamas on shared pasture, I'm sure we can work that out (with you– no promises if you decide to sell your piece to someone else).
If I can realize my dreams, that's great. If I can help some of my friends realize theirs at the same time, that's even better.
What we're looking for:
Where we're looking:
We want to vacation on it, and build a retirement/vacation place on it. Our ideas of retirement include grazing tiny amounts of livestock and having a huge garden with a few fruit trees. It also includes wildlife habitat and restoring native ecosystems, eg weeding out non-native plants, clearing silted streams, etc. If it doesn't have utilities nearby, then it should have a well or water rights, or have neighboring properties have wells (eg, it's possible and likely).
