We wandered the farmer's market briefly before going on to the actual festy-thang. The market was starting to close up, and I couldn't resist… I bought a flat of organic strawberries at the “don't make us take 'em home” price of $9. That's 75 cents a pint. Whoa.
We walked back to the car, moved it into the shade, and I put the berries in the trunk, covered with the reflective bubble insulator that I keep in the car. The trunk smelled like a fruit-fly's dream of paradise when we returned a few hours later, but the berries were fine. Out of the 12 pints, all are washed, cut up, and in the freezer, and I only found 6 – 8 bad berries in the whole batch. Outstanding. /me very happy camper.
The little green berry baskets should come in handy when cherry tomato season gets into full swing out back in the garden. And since we were walking back to the car anyway at that point, we also picked up one of the half-bags of California oranges we'd sampled on the way into the market. Five-plus pounds of oranges for $3. Yum!
We met up with and and got some lunch downtown at Hangen, and also cajoled out into the fresh air and sunshine for a very pleasant day. Two weeks from now is the Sunnyvale Art & Wine festy-thang in the downtown plaza and Town & Country area over at Mathilda and Washington, so if ya missed this one, we'll see ya there.
