Senator Dianne Feinstein,
Senator Barbara Boxer,
Representative Anna Eshoo,
Thank you for your diligence and excellent representation in the US Congress.
I am writing today to urge you to continue opposition of the HR 418 'RealID' rider. As you are undoubtedly aware, it would create a de-facto National ID database by requiring states to merge their information and use a common format. It would also create incentives for businesses to require many transactions to include a 'swipe' of one's driver's license, so that the standardized format electronic info could be read and added to marketing databases. Ugh!
Everything I've read about the RealID plan so far doesn't convince me that it would be *any* more difficult for terrorists or criminals to create or steal false ID, so what on earth would we be accomplishing by it? Other than to make the country that helped defeat facism in two World Wars be the latest place to ask citizens in their hometowns, “May I see your papers, please?”
Keep up the great work, ladies! It rocks to have all my US-level reps be women, btw– another great thing about Sunnyvale. π
sincerely,
