10 Unusual Things Meme
1) Quit my job, moved into a motorhome, and set off on a cross-country road trip by myself for 6 months (1990), and again with my hubby for a year (2002 – 2003)
2) Took a 3-week owner-builder class in energy-efficient house construction (1989)
3) Won blue ribbons at county and state fairs (4-H baking, dairy goats, NJHA vegetable judging) (early 1970's)
4) Seen spacecraft fly, in person: 2nd X-Prize flight of SpaceShip One (2004) and the ill-fated Columbia launch (2003)
5) Lived on a farm in a house heated only by woodstoves (1977 – 1981)
6) Driven a railway 'motorcar' or 'speeder' (utility vehicle) (1996)
7) Raised substantial amounts of food hydroponically (2003)
8) Worked all my adult life in high-tech, self-taught, and held my own with the Boys (1983 – current)
9) Slept in a working machine room, on a hammock tied into an inoperative DEC-20 framework, with a copy of 'Gorin on Assembler' over the floor vent so I wouldn't freeze (1990 or 1991)

3) Doing amateur radio emergency communications for Hurricane Eva in the Honolulu EOC along with the mayor (1984)
4) Youngest staff member at the Radiation Biology and Biophysics (1976)
5) Been President and/or officer of 4 different amateur radio clubs across the US
6) Research diver at Malden and Jarvis Islands in the Pacific; fish hadn't seen divers before, and had to be shoved out of the way of the instrumentation! (1986)
7) Helped rebuild several trolley cars at 2 railway museums (1984 – current)
8) Spent a year living in a motorhome, travelling across the USA (2002 – 2003)
9) Hand-fed blue sharks while wearing a chainmail suit (1995)

Mike adds that for himself, he doesn't feel that he's done much unusual in itself, just perhaps that the combination of those things by one person are unusual.
